Behind The Darkest Point
I'll Find My Light
2024
This project was inspired by Moths.
I find Moths to be beautiful insects. For some they are the epitome of destruction, but I am fascinated by how they make their way in the dark towards the light.
In some folklore moths are associated with death; representing the souls of those who have passed away bearing messages from the afterlife. There are those who believe moths symbolize intuition, a sign to trust your inner wisdom. For others, Moths symbolize change, growth and transformation - acting as a guide that lights a path towards a greater understanding or maybe a way to be less fearful of the journey.
I like all of that: something that is perhaps innocuous to many, has also become imbued with meaning that has formed and evolved over time and place, transcending the banal to embody symbology of different cultures, passed down through generations.
It’s comforting. A little illumination from the past, a little symbolism and guidance for us to move through the present, whatever is out there afterwards.
This show is dedicated to those lost this year specifically Joyce F, Marcus B, Murray M, Robin W, Tom T, & Noreen M and to others that I continue to miss. I hope that for each and everyone of you, that your paths were well lit.
This project is comprised of recycled papers and wire mesh to create figurative sculptures; craft paper, tracing paper and Mylar with ink and acrylics to create the landscape; string LED's and wire to create moth flight path and oversized sculptures suspended from ceiling.
